There’s one form of communication which is understood internationally and has no language barrier. This form of expression is music. Music can tell a story or give us insight to what is about to happen; it can make us happy or sad, and even make us recollect our thoughts from days gone by. Sometimes when we hear a certain song we can remember the things we were doing when that particular song was popular.
Music has touched the souls of many and even consumed some of us. I have enjoyed listening and performing various types of music for the past 40 years. I received my first electric guitar on Christmas of 1967 while living in the Hudson Valley; form that point on I was enthralled. I became interested in harmonic sounds and bass guitar. During the next five years I performed in the Ichabod Crane High School Choir; Directed by Dr. Johnson and participated in several interstate student exchanges along with a performing at the Lincoln Arts Center. Coupled with performing in choir I spent two of those years performing percussion in the high school band.
I moved to the North Country in 1972 and soon after my high school graduation I enlisted in the US Army. After a long three year obligation, I returned to my roots and played with several bands in Austin, TX. I moved back to the North Country and coordinated the last 1000 Islands Music Festival produced by Arena Productions in Clayton Center. This three day event was to be booked as the second Woodstock. 14,000 people attended the event. I worked with such artists as Blue Oyster Cult, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Chubby Checkers, Duke Williams and The Extremes, The Greg Kin Band, and South Side Johnny. Soon after, I went to work for WOTT and WNCQ filling the airways with the best of pop and country. While working there, in the early part of 1982, myself and other local musicians in the Jefferson County area and formed the band “Lake Effect”. Our band specialized in Classic Rock and some of the newer country and rock that was popular in the early 80’s. The group finished its last job at a Deer Roast on the Number Four Road in the summer of 1984. Other bands in the North Country which I performed with were: Storm Watch, Bonnie and the Late Show, A Taste of Country, and Borderline.
Form 1987 -1990 I operated and managed Hilton Piano in the salmon Run Mall. Many students were instructed in Bass guitar, Guitar, Piano, and Drums.
In 2005 I was awarded an A.A.S from Jefferson Community College in Business. I took every opportunity to fill my free time with classes in music and the arts. While at Jefferson I took an opportunity to see and visit the Rock and Roll Hall of fame. I performed with faculty and staff during several functions each semester for the students and also entertained the children at the day care facility there. Since then I have been attending SUNY Potsdam and will graduate in the spring of 2008. While at Potsdam I have written many original pieces which I have performed at Jefferson Community College.
This area has always been close to my heart and I would like the opportunity to pass on the gift of music to your children. This is my way of giving back to a community whom has supported my music for over the past 25 years. Your children will be afforded the opportunity to learn Guitar, Bass Guitar, and Vocal Range coupled with Projection.
I look forward to sharing with you and your children.
